Lovin’ That Man, Day One

For an explanation about “Lovin’ That Man” go here.

Today is day one of my “Lovin’ That Man” challenge, and here is what I did:

I finally made a recipe that Dadzoo has been wanting me to try since we had had it at a friends house. I also served it with his favorite rice and asparagus, (his all time favorite veggie).

I also gave him a nice back rub using peppermint oil, he loves me to do this and it has been months since I have. He went to bed a relaxed happy man.

I then folded his socks. Now I know that sounds a little strange, but I am not the greatest sock folder in the world, in fact I almost never fold socks. We usually fish the socks as we need them out of a big basket. Tonight I folded Dadzoo’s socks and put them away, so tomorrow morning he won’t have to try to find a match, they will just be there for him.

I also wanted to share with you all a lovely post by my friend Kimberlynn, she wrote a wonderful tribute to her husband.
So what did you all do for your Man?
Either leave a comment telling us all what you did, or e-mail me a link and I will add it to this post.

Using Homemade Soap

I got an e-mail from a blogger friend the other day and she asked me:

I see that you’re making your own soap!!! I’m so impressed. I’ve been trying to read up on how to do this myself. But before I take the plunge, I thought it would be best to try some out first. So I bought some at a local store, and so far I love it. But I’m just not having any success using it to wash dishes. Could you fill me in on all the ways you use lye soap?

Mostly I use my soap for bodies. Live bodies….promise….we use it while bathing, for hand washing and I even use it for my face. It is very mild, and by the time you use it (after curing for 6+ weeks) the lye is completely out of the soap. If you want a stronger soap use it sooner.

In regards to household uses, I use it anywhere I can. For dish washing and kitchen cleaning this is what I do.

(sorry the pictures are dark, it was a cloudy day and my kitchen was dark)

I shave small bits of soap with a knife into the sink and I add hot water, the soap will dissolve into the water. This works well for easy clean up jobs. There won’t be a lot of bubbles and suds, commercial dish soap has added chemicals to make it bubbly. I try to avoid those chemicals.

For big messy jobs I add my homemade scouring powder to the water. (Equal parts Borax and Washing Soda with a scoop of Oxiclean).

This formula works very well for baked on food, and messy stove tops.

For a quick wash up, I get the bar of soap wet, and rub a wet rag on it until it is saturated with the soap and quickly wash whatever need washing. Very simple.

I have also used my soap in homemade laundry soap, which is a post all itself, so I am going to link you to a great post by my friend. She does a great job explaining everything you would need to know about homemade laundry soap.

I find great satisfaction in making and using my own soap. Not just because as a family we benefit from using soaps and cleaning products free of harsh chemical. It is more about creating something from my own hands, something that is important in the care and nurture of my family.

Loving That Man of Mine

I hesitated writing this post, since Dadzoo reads my blog…you will see why if you keep reading.

I was listening to a radio program a week or so ago, the caller was saying that her husband was feeling down and was overwhelmed with work. The caller also admitted that when her husband got home from work she wasn’t the most pleasant person and tended to nag at him. The radio personality told her that that behavior needed to stop. The last thing her husband needed after a long, hard day at work was nagging and bickering when he got home. The lady then asked for advice on how to do that.

The radio personality then gave her an assignment. She told the lady to do three very specific and concrete things to make her husband feel like he was the luckiest guy alive. They then talked a little more, and made a list of things to do and the call ended.

It made me think. I feel like I am pretty nice to come home to on most days, but can’t my husband use a little extra niceness at the end of his day, and no matter how hard my day was, won’t it help perk me to preform three specific acts of service to my husband.

So I will come to the point of this post.

Next week Monday through Friday I am going to do three specific things to make my husband feel like the luckiest guy around, and I want you to join me. Are you in? Now it can’t be anything vague, such as “I will be more appreciative today”. It needs to be something like “I will give him a foot rub while we watch his favorite movie.” or “I will wrap myself around him when he walks in the door and tell him why I love him”.

I will post about what I do every night the first week of February. (What a way to kick off the month of love!) I would like for everyone who takes this challenge to either do a post on it (and let me know so I can link to it) or comment on my blog everyday, I would love to hear what you are doing and I am sure others would too.

So get a pen and paper out, make a list and start lovin’ that man of yours.

(Knowing not everybody has a man to love, if you have a child, parent, sibling or good friend and what to participate pick one of those people and show them that you really appreciate them, and let us all know what you are doing.)
