Squishy Baby Pictures

I just wanted to share some pictures we had taken of Lydia.

I am so smitten with this little girl.

I promise I will get back to home-making type posts soon, but I have to indulge in a few squishy little pictures of my squishy little baby.

Sneak Peek

The nursery is nearly complete.
It required a little construction,
a lot of paint,
and was so much fun to do!

I have always wanted to do a “white on white” room
(white is my favorite color after all)
and so I decided that this nursery would be just that, white on white.
I figured it was a prudent choice, when other babies, boy babies to be exact, come along it will be easy to make into a boys room too.

As soon as it is complete,
I will
to be sure
post many more pictures.

But I couldn’t help posting a little sneak peek.

Cloth Diapering

We are six weeks into our first experience with cloth diapering. In all honesty, I would have to say: I wish I had been doing it all along.  Cloth diapering has been so easy and simple, I hardly notice that we are doing it, and I LOVE not buying paper diapers and spending all that money only to throw it away.  Cloth diapering is a completely different animal than it was 20 years ago, there are many different styles and systems and, best of al,l gadgets that keep your hands out of the toilet!  Washing machines are more efficient and heavy duty and can handle, with no problem, loads of diapers.

Diapers, cloth wipes, inserts and covers all folded and ready to put away.

I chose to use a contour type diaper with a separate diaper cover that can be used for several diaperings.

Diaper inserts, I add these at night to help with the extra absorbency. My mother-in-law made these for me.

When it is time for a diaper change the soiled diapers go into a wet bag, and later that evening the whole bag goes into the washing machine.  Right now while I am nursing, I don’t have to rinse out any of the diapers.  When she gets older and solid food is introduced any soiled diapers will be quickly rinsed out, using a sprayer attachment, in the toilet, no scrubbing needed, the washing machine can get it all clean.

Wet bag, hanging on the side of the changing table. I have two I use, one to wash and one to use.

When the diapers are all washed, right before bed, I hang everything on a small drying rack to air dry over night.  I do this for two reasons, the first is that it makes the diapers and inserts more absorbent, it also saves energy, not using the dryer, which saves a little money.

Diapers and other accessories drying in the morning sun.

Had anyone else tried cloth diapering, what was your experience?

Eating an Elephant

I think I have finally tipped over the edge into insanity.

I am insanily
tired
busy
in love
crazy
messy
sensitive
and unorganized

Sounds like I just had a baby or something…..

Baby Sister will be four weeks old this Friday (where did the time go!) and I think it is time to gather up all my insanity and start working towards sanity.  Now I know I have a small baby and a bunch of other kids hanging around, and that life won’t be normal (whatever that is) for sometime and that is ok, but I need some order around here so I can function with a little sanity.  I am totally finding life overwhelming right now, where do I start to reclaim some of the order that I use to find in my home, when everything feels so out of control?  I am reminded of the saying “How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.”  That is what I am going to do, eat my elephant, one bite at a time.  Each day I am going to set  a small goal for myself, something that needs to be done and can be done, and I am also going to remind myself of all the things I am doing.  Yesterday I was able to get all the laundry done, the kitchen didn’t get cleaned, but that is ok, considering I kept the baby fed, my family fed everyone was bathed and I was able to hold baby sister when she needed me.

When all is said and done, I am doing pretty darn good.

What are the elephants in your life,
and how to you tackle them?

Another Baby Blanket

One of the things I have found that I really enjoy is crocheting baby blankets for my new nieces and nephews.  In June Dadzoo’s sister had a baby, her fourth, and I had been working on this little number for her.  I wasn’t quite finished when baby Spencer came, and the birth of Lydia delayed the delivery of the blanket, so she didn’t get it until he was about 6 weeks old.  I didn’t want to post pictures until I was sure she had gotten it, considering she reads this blog from time to time.

This blanket had to be one of my favorites.  I was fun to learn new stitches and figure out how to do a zig zag pattern.

Hope she likes it!
