10 Years…part I

On Friday Mike and I will have been married for 10 years. I can hardly believe that it has been that long! Ten wonderful, hard, fun years. Mike didn’t want me to give him a gift, he begged me not to spend the money, so instead I am going to blog the top 25 reasons I love him, I will post 5 a day for the next 5 days.

25. He takes care of all the maintenance on the cars
24. He kisses me on the back of the neck when I am doing dishes or cooking
23. He saves the first kiss for me when he gets home at night
22. He lets me pretend I am a farmer and he goes along with my quacky projects
21. He drives a half an hour away to get me my favorite pizza because they won’t deliver to the middle of nowhere (that is where we live)

A Tooth Tale

Two years ago my BABY GIRL punk (who was just two at the time) decided to take a long ride on her little bike down a short, sloped driveway. Just as she made it down the hill the front wheel caught on the curb and she landed FACE FIRST on the street, the bike on top of her. She scraped up her lip, chin and nose and broke her front tooth. Slowly her two front teeth turned dark gray, kind of ugly, luckily her
sparkling personality
hides the defect.

(here she is before the dentist appointment, you can’t see the color change very well, but you can see the broken tooth)

Last week we noticed a big, pus filled bump on her gum right above the broken tooth. I took her to a neighbor who is a dental hygienist and she told me it was an abscess and that we were OK to wait until Monday when we had an appointment with the dentist anyway. On Monday we all trooped into the dentist office (I think we filled the entire waiting room). When the Dentist looked at it he told me that the tooth would have to come out. He numbed her gums really well (he is really cute, he told her to close her eyes and make a wish while he was using the needle, she had no clue what was going on) and got out the big plyer (I can’t spell that word, and spell check can’t figure it out either) thingies and pulled that tooth right out! She gave him the biggest, crustiest look I have ever seen! She didn’t cry until she realized she was bleeding, then was soothed when they gave her a treasure box to put her tooth in! She got even more excited when she remembered that the

tooth fairy

would be coming!

Now when she

smiles

I have to

laugh

she looks like a

toothless

HILL BILLY!

My Treasures

This month will be my 10th wedding anniversary. I always said I wanted a diamond trinity band. I really, really want one. There is no way we can afford a diamond ring right now, unless we buy it on credit, and really, is a diamond worth more debt when we are already deeply in debt? There are so many other things our extra money needs to go to. We have a basement to finish, we need to get all our food storage, we need more savings and we need to pay off debts. I keep telling myself all the reasons we can’t get a ring, and they are all really, really good reasons, I still keep finding myself a little sad about the whole thing.

So I decided that I needed a little attitude adjustment.

I am going to count my jewels, my pearls, my diamonds. These are the jewels that I get to take with me. Real diamonds may be really pretty and sparkly, and look oh so nice on my hand, but at the end of it all that ring won’t be on my hand when I meet my maker, however, my real treasures will be there.

Baptism Day

Saturday my Katie was Baptised.

It was a wonderful day.

Not only was it her baptism day, but it was her birthday, she got to have a double celebration!

She was very excited to wear her “princess” dress.

She was a little nervous for the actual Baptism.

she kept saying

“I have never done this before”

Her Dad and I assured her that there was nothing to be afraid of.

Later she told me:

“This has been the best day of my life!”
