Thanksgiving

Thanksivng is my favorite holiday, I love everything about it. This year I am hosting a small Thanksgiving feast for my parents and grandparents. I am nervious and excited. It isn’t my first time doing a Thanksgiving dinner, a couple of years ago I had Dadzoo’s parents over, but for some reason I am more nervious about this dinner than I was last time. Anyway I am excited and planning my menu and tablescape.

What are you favorite Thanksgiving traditions and dishes?

  1. Traditional for me has been getting up EARLY to make the stuffing and get the turkey in the oven. I have to because I always search for the largest turkey and it needs time to cook! It is so quiet and dark at that time – I love it! Maybe play Christmas music in the background. Favorite dish – cranberry sauce.

  2. I love to plan the meal and spend time all week doing little things to prepare. I bake the pies on Wednesday, mix the bread dough on Wednesday night, cook all day Thursday, and get the children to halp as much as possible. We eat all the traditional foods: turkey, potatoes, gravy, stuffing, fruit and green salads, veggies, sweet potatoes, pies, cranberries, and rolls. Plus, we eat my husband's grandmother's dumplings from Austria/Hungary and this nasty salad of his mother's made with canned pineapple, coconut, mini marshmellows, and sour cream. This year I'll buy a free-range, organic turkey.

  3. Green bean casserole is my favorite thanksgiving dish. We always have turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, green bean casserole, sauerkraut, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and chocolate pie. Yum!!!

  4. I do most of the work on Wednesday so we have time for some family fun on Thursday before feasting.
I make all traditional thanksgiving items. My biggest hangup is the gravy. Can never get it to turn out right.
Good luck! Don't stress too much.

  5. I've hosted Thanksgiving every year since I was 19 doing all of the cooking and everything. Even the last two years without my kids I had Thanksgiving at my house inviting over my 2 single brothers and a friend or two. This year my non-cooking, high-stress mom decided she wants Thanksgiving at her house 🙁 So sad

  6. I can't say we have traditions except to make it an all family day. DD wants to hang out in pajamas all day I told her she could. We usually have a bonfire but if its windy or rainy that can be cancelled.

This year we want to stay close to home sometimes we go to my moms. We sometimes again the weather makes a difference take long country drives before dinner.

We aren't having the traditional meal this year. I don't want to, I want to do something different I might let each of us pick something we like I want Lasagnie, DD wants eggrolls, and of course every year we have to make a cheesecake. That is a tradition for the holidays that is never cancelled by weather we pick a very sinful cheesecake to make from scratch. I make them for bdays on request and Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years always get one. Other than that I don't make them for just anything.

    hugs!
