Onions out my ears!

Today was a working in the yard kind of day.
It had rained all night,
then the sun dawned fresh and crisp
and cool.

I harvest the garlic that I had planted in November, they are a little small, next time I will put them in a place where they can stay longer. I need their planter box for other things.

I thinned the carrots that needed thinning.
They are little bitty things, but the kids will have fun eating them.

Then turnips of coarse, I planted a lot of those this season.
I am going to give turnip greens another try tomorrow.
Wish me luck.

Then I thinned out my onion bed and I got 1.5 pounds of green onions!
I don’t cook much with green onions,
however next week, we are going to be eating a lot of these little babies.

I planted some cabbages and broccoli

trying to stagger the harvest
and got inside just before this happened

I love early summer rain!

  1. I'll wish you luck on your turnip greens try #2 if you wish me luck on cooking my first gooseberry tart (actually my first gooseberry anything) LOL
Your carrots are beautiful BTW as are your other veggies!
    Blessings, Aimee

  2. Do you smash down the onion tops as they grow? I've heard it helps the onions get bigger because they put more energy into the bulb instead of the stems. I've always been too afraid to try it myself.

  3. onions and peppers freeze great. the summer i planted them I chopped them and froze them and used them all year.

  4. We planted carrots a couple of years ago and just loved eating them. This year none of my carrots came up, even after a second planting. I am hoping to try again in the fall garden.
