Some odds and ends

When we moved in this lovely kitchen light came with the house.

I have always hated it.

When we painted I figured it would be a good time to finally replace the light.

I like this much better.
What do you think?

The End

After about a week and a half of painting we were finally finished. My brother-in-law did a fabulous job and I was so excited to get decortaing.

In the past I have decorated in the cutsie country fashon, I am now wanting to change a bit and I would like my house to look like a country farm house.

Here are some pictures of what I have done, mixed in with some of the finshed walls.

In the kitchen I did a darker brown and in the living area I did two colors, a light tan and a deep wine.

I have collected Birdhouses over the years, this is my ‘ode to cutsie country, I just couldn’t give up my bird houses (this is about half of the, the other half are going to find homes in the yard this year)

These plates were hand painted by my great-grandmother.

I am so happy with my new-to-me house!

The Middle

(scroll down for the first post in my painting series)

One of the nice things about my “painter” is that he is also my brother-in-law. It is much more comfortable to spend the day with a person I know and like than it would be a stranger. My kids also enjoyed uncle Jason being around. He is really fun and easy going, which is nice when there are 5 punks hanging around wanting to help all the time.

Here he is, Mr wonderful-brother-in-law surrounded by my punks…”helping”.

There goes my green walls…covered up by a nice milk-chocolate-pudding color.

Here is a good example of how good my painter is…notice…no tape
he does it free hand.

I am amazed at how he just sits up on that ladder, not even noticing the 20 foot drop…

Before

When we moved into this house 7 and a half years ago I promptly painted it. I had lived in enough “egg shell white” apartments and I didn’t want to live in an “egg shell white” house. I have always love the color green in all its forms so it was natural that I would pick green for the familyroom/kitchen area.

I loved the color. It was so different from the typical light tan and white everybody else had, and like I said before, I love the color green.

Over the years the paint became chipped in places and the base boards banged up. This of coarse naturally happens when you have 5 kids running around. For the last couple of years I have been wanting to paint. I painted the house myself the first time around and it was a huge job, our ceiling vaults and the highest of the vaults happens to be over the stairs, making for a very awkward and dangerous wall to paint.

Lucky for me I have a most wonderful and talented brother-in-law who does custom painting for a living, and this year we finally had the money to pay Mr. wonderful-brother-in-law to paint the house for us. As he was cutting in (or as us non-painting people say “doing the edges”) I remembered to grab the camera and snap pictures before my wonderful green walls disappeared.

These are all kitchen shots, the family room was already covered with dark gray primer by the time I thought to get the camera out.

Tomorrow…..”The Middle.”

Bedtime Blessings

Remember
This?
Dadzoo and I have been married for 10 years and up until 3 weeks ago we had been sleeping in the same bed and on the same mattresses I brought into the marriage. I had bought this bed and mattresses about a year before we got married, and I bought super cheap stuff, it was all I could afford at the time.

Over the past 10 years our bed had served us well, however, the last few years the mattresses have been giving out and the last 6 months have been terrible. Dadzoo and I have been sleeping restless and waking up with sore backs.

I knew we needed to get new mattresses as soon as we could afford it.

About the time the government announced they would be giving us all a “stimulus” check and we had decided that we would be using a small portion of that money to buy new mattresses I got a call from my sister.

She said “do you want this:”

and I said “um, heck yeah!”
She had gotten it from my aunt, who has a beautiful house and had just done some re-decorating. My aunt offered it to my sister and she took it, fully planning on using it. My sister put it into storage (it is a long story) while they were looking to buy a new house and once they bought the house they decided to buy bedroom furniture that matched their style better. so she offered it to me.

So, Dadzoo and I went and bought new mattresses (king size, our old bed was a queen).

Then he borrowed a truck and trailer and went to pick up our new bed…yay!!!!! and along with the bed came a beautiful armour.

We now have a beautiful bedroom set for the cost of gas and new mattresses. The bed pretty much fills our room now and we ended up getting rid of two dressers (both those dressers we had had since we were both little).
Now we sleep like babies (actually I have never understood that phrase, my babies didn’t sleep all that well)….anyway now we sleep like we did before we had babies and we don’t wake up with sore backs.
YAY!

Now all I need to do is paint the bedroom and save for the bedding that I really want on the bed. Something big and white and fluffy, like a down comforter…mmm….
